"in consideration of the other"

2012, from the Sorry I haven't written in so long, project

Excerpts from my brother’s letters are etched onto copper plates burnished to a highly reflective finish. When looked at straight on, each piece creates an effect that causes the viewer’s eye to shift focus back and forth between his or her own reflection and the reversed handwriting on the copper surface. The title refers to two possible others: the author of the etched words and the other in the viewer’s own reflection.
